Rehab

For spinal and extremity conditions rehabilitation and nutritional support is paramount. Soft tissues include muscle, tendon, and different types of connective tissue, cartilage and meniscus. For example if you were to fracture a bone, you may require a cast, and it would heal accordingly. However if your soft tissue is involved this could take much longer to heal, if at all, dependant upon the tissue involved and the degree of damage.

Far too often many practitioners will begin exercise soon after injury only to cause the condition to worsen. Exercise is meant to be rehabilitative, not curative in the initial phases of care. There must be a certain amount of treatment and improvement prior to the initiation of exercise. Then the full benefits are gained, with rehabilitation of the surrounding soft tissues.

Rehabilitation can take the form of:

  • Core Stability
  • Isotonics
  • Isometrics
  • Specific Strengthening
  • Spinal and extremity specific stretches
  • Or a combination of these and others

During the acute phase of care in-office therapy may include a combination of:

  • Diathermy
  • Intersegmental Traction
  • Muscle Stimulation may include Interferential, Russian, Muscle Rehabilitation or others. These units are similar to TENS units but far more effective.

These therapies are used for reducing pain, muscle spasms, and swelling. They also aid in the rehabilitation of the surrounding soft tissues at the site of acute and chronic conditions.
